| | Permissions -Vista Ultimate With my Administrator hat on I have been exploring the folder / file structure in Windows Explorer. When trying to access certain folders I am getting "Access is denied" responses and I cannot immediately figure out why! Each folder has an arrow pointing NE on the folder icon. Folders include Application Data, Cookies and StartUp. They are all system as opposed to user created. Using my experience gleaned as a Windows XP user I have made the normal changes to make system files and their extensions visible. Looking in Properties -Advanced I have noticed a reference to Everyone Denied. Is this related to the problem? How does one gain access to these folders? Any related links would be helpful. | | Re: Permissions -Vista Ultimate The folders you refer to are, presumably, in the 'default' user? If this is the case you should notice that they are actaully 'shortcuts' and this is why you are getting an access denied. All the relevant folders - application data, cookies, startup, etc - are available in your 'own name' user folder and are easily accessible from there. -- John Barnett MVP Associate Expert Windows - Shell/User Web: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org Web: http://vistasupport.mvps.org The information in this mail/post is supplied "as is". | | Re: Permissions -Vista Ultimate John If you are logged on as as Administrator why do you need them to be available in your own name user folder? I started to read some of the Help on permissions. It seems that the programmer has built an appartment block the size of the Empire State building for a single occupant! Is there anyway to turn off what is a totally unnecesary procedural nightmare? The folder tree is difficult to see! Is there any way to make it more obvious? Am I alone in being disatisfied with this retrograde step, which gives a poorer user interface than Windows Explorer in Windows 95 to Windows XP and File Manager before that? Is this an example of a change where users will look to a third party file manager for a better experience? -- Regards. | | Re: Permissions -Vista Ultimate I upgraded to Vista ultimate and have been denied access to some folders. When I try to gain access following the help & support i come up against a brick wall. When I do try i get an error message. -- JoeyBoy "Gerry Cornell" wrote: > John > > If you are logged on as as Administrator why do you need them to be > available in your own name user folder? > > I started to read some of the Help on permissions.
