| | Backup Transient error message. I am unable to backup (files or computer) on a New Gateway desktop with Vista Ultimate. Came with dual partitioned hard drive. 2nd partition contains standard recovery data (Windows File copies). Vista backup program configured to also backup to this partition. Added second hard drive for backups and it works fine. Reconfigured Backup program to backup this drive. Completed first backup successfully. Subsequent attempts to this drive or a DVD result in the following message. “The Backup did not complete successfully. A Shadow copy could not be created for the following reason: The writer experienced a transient Error. If the backup process is retied, the error may not reoccur. 0X800423F3” |

I'd like you to generate a log file for me and send me some screenshots of your hardware setup. Thanks! -- This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. | | Want to know reply Did you get an answer to this questions? I've received the same error message and cannot complete a subsequent back-up from the first one I created. The first back was successful but any subsequent backups fail for this same reason 'can't create a shadow copy'. EggHeadCafe.com - .NET Developer Portal of Choice http://www.eggheadcafe.com |

| | Re: Want to know reply No, we don't have a resolution yet. We know it's a VSS error, but we don't know the cause. I've advised the customer to contact product support, which I wish I didn't have to do. I'll let them know that we've had another report of this though. What kind of computer do you have--is it brand new? Are you getting the exact same error code as the other customer? -- This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. | | Re: Want to know reply For those following this string, the problem is solved. In Services, the Volume Shadow Copy Service was set to “Manual” start, and had not been started. This was changed to “Automatic”, then clicked on “Start”. Problem no longer exits. "Jill Zoeller [MSFT]" wrote: > No, we don't have a resolution yet. | | Re: Want to know reply Not so fast, Captain Al, I too, am receiving "the writer experienced a transient error" message (0X800423F3) and cannot backup my 'puter. Your fix does nothing to eliminate the problem. I'm running Visa Premium on a brand new Gateway. Gateway support has been very helpful with suggestions like "check to make sure the computer is plugged in." Does anyone have any other suggestions? Place the Ubuntu LiveCD in the drive. Restart your computer. When the desktop appears, click the Install icon. Make sure to have Ubuntu use your whole hard drive. That way Vista and all your problems will be gone forever. http://www.ubuntu.com Love and Kisses, Doris -- My Microsoft Hero (he loves this company!) ... http://tinyurl.com/yp9cn2 Title Says It All ... http://tinyurl.com/2ssodl |
