What word processing program comes w/ Vista?

I recently purchased a laptop w/ Vista Home Preminum on it but I can't find
(or figure out) what word processing program comes with Vista. When I check
under 'All Programs' , there is no MS Word, MS Works or anything that seems
like a word processor.

Please help.

Thank you,

Michelle

I'd suggest you download the free OpenOffice.org - it will do what you
need and more. It's an open source replacement for MS Office.

That's right - Windows has never included MS Word or MS Works...

Maybe WordPad would be sufficient...?

Re: What word processing program comes w/ Vista?

Wordpad is the only "word processor" that comes with Windows. Not much
muscle in that puppy. As OP suggested... OpenOffice is free and fairly,
although not 100%, compatible with MS Office file types.

Re: What word processing program comes w/ Vista?

If you want MS Word, take a look at Office 2007 "Home and Student" edition.
It's only $150 for up to 3 computers and includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint,
and OneNote. You can find more information and a trial version here:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/su...674081033.aspx

I know it seems like I'm shilling for MS but this is just one of those
things that seems like they are doing a poor job of getting the word out
that this is so affordable, especially if you have 2 or 3 computers.

Re: What word processing program comes w/ Vista?

I agree. I was using OpenOffice but with the Home and Student edition, it
seemed a reasonable price for getting alot. I teach Excel and Word at the
local college and can get the academic version free for myself but I bought
Home and Student for my wife and daughter.

Re: What word processing program comes w/ Vista?

Vista does not come with a word processor. It has wordpad which is more of
a text editor, however, if you are wanting to create/edit word documents
then you need to purchase Microsoft Office.

Or Open Office or ABIWord or ...

You don't 'purchase' OpenOffice.org - you simply download it for free and
start using it. If that makes you feel guilty, though, I believe that SUN
still sells the commercial version, Star Office, for about $60.

I know. I should have added that for those who don't know.

ABIWord is free too and I actually prefer it over Open Office's word
processor program.
