updates, is this just me?

I went to Windows Update site and saw the following ....

WindowsXP-KB931836-x86-ENU.exe

I downloaded it and tried to run it, I rec'd the following error - Not
enough storage is available to process this command.

What gives?

Well presumably if you're posting in this group, you're running Vista. The
patch is for XP.

Ah. I've seen that error message for so long I didn't even think about that.
It's nothing to do with disk space or memory or anything like that.

For a very long time now, the "family of products" that Vista and XP are
descended from have used that as one of their 'go to' error messages when
they want to say "Whoa... something weird just happened but I'm not quite
sure what". When you see that error message, most often Windows seems to
intend it as some kind of zen koan about errors rather than a true
description of what is actually wrong.

Re: updates, is this just me?

I have a vista box with auto update on. At every start-up (with UAC on) I
get teh request ton install that specific hotfix. As you said, its a xp
hotfix and wont install.
The message does not appear if UAC is off but it still tries to install the
hotfix at every start-up.
I dont know how it got here in the first place but my goal is to make it go
away.
Where in vista can I stop this specific update from trying to install?
