Vista - Windows Experience Index - CPU

Hi,

I have a system that did have an Intel Core2 Duo 2.1Ghz cpu... this got
around 5.2 for processor subscore.

I've since upgraded to a Core2Duo Extreme edition (2.93GHz) which is only
getting a score of 5.6 - I've seen other systems (Macbooks for example)
which get the full 5.9 processor score with slower core2duo CPUs.

Even if I overclock the CPU to 3.3GHz I am not getting an increase in score
within the Windows Experience rating despite refreshing the score and seeing
improvements in other benchmarks.

Anyone have any suggestions why this is?

Why do you care? This is just STUPID marketing hype and has zero
impact on actual performance. Use REAL tools like CPU-Z to truly see
how well your CPU, MB and MEMORY are running regarding settings, rated
verses actual speed, FSB speed, memory timing, voltage, etc..

CPU-Z is a FREE little utility and a example of GOOD programming
nearly everybody should install. It is very small,fast, accurate and
doesn't cost anything and you don't need to know squat about the inner
working of your PC you use it. What more could anyone want?

Don't get wrapped around the axle trying to get better scores. I've read
several articles that discussed the non-scientific rating process and one
score has nothing to do with the other but the lowest score is your
Experience rating. If anything, it's a relative indicator (...of what?) -
at best and it appears MS is not telling how they test and determine the
scores. Look for this to be tossed/heavily modified as the manufacturers
latest and greatest hardware models get mediocre scores with Vista and the
so-called "Experience Rating" starts digging into their sales figures.

one out.

windows experience index doesnt show anything on my computer. in system the
score is 3.2. then in performance information and tools nothing is
displayed. it just says

rate and improve your computers performance.

not sure where to start?

i upgraded my memory from 2 gig to 4 gig.after i updated my score it went
down from 5.1 to 4.8.i have abit fatality AN9 32x sli board,8800 gtx,2x200
gig sata drives.creative xfi sound,4 gig crucial ballistic tracer memory 4x1
gig paired.vista home premium 64 bit.AMD 5000x2 CPU.this system is no way
worth a measly 4.8.why did it go down.any ideas.

Memory latency has gone up with more RAM, it takes more time for the CPU to
fetch data, the more RAM you install unnecessarily it sure is going have a
system penalty.

4.8 is not "measly".

using dual channel DDR2?
If you have a dual channel capable MB and don't install properly matched RAM
modules, the dual channel function ceases and the overall score drops.
bank 0, slot 1 and bank 1, slot 1 must match;
bank 0 slot 2 and bank 1, slot 2 must match
if the latency is different, different number of chips on the DIMM, etc,
dual channel will not function properly.
