Printer Access denied-HELP!

I posted this question in the windows.vista.print_fax newsgroup and the
only person who answered was somebody else who had the same problem.
Please! Someone has to know why I can't get access to my network printer

Thanks

DonW

I've got a problem that's driving me nuts!

I can't get my Beta 2 (public) version of Vista to print to my network
printer.

There's two XP machines and a Win2000 machine already on the network that
happily print to that printer.
I have shared files on the network the Vista installation can "see" and
edit all shared files.
All other computers on the network can "see" and edit the files I've shared
on the Vista installation.
So I KNOW there's network connectivity and permissions.

I try to add the network printer to my Vista installation using a valid
ADMINISTRATOR account on all 4 machines.
I also find the new printer driver in the Vista directory and install it.
When I try to print, all I get back is "Access denied"

I've explored the firewall settings ( with little knowledge) and they seem
to be O.K.

PLEASE What am I doing wrong???

Re: Printer Access denied-HELP!

I had no trouble setting up and print to 3
separate printers I have on my home network.
It's always possible there is a corrupted file
or some other internal problem with your Vista
install.

RE: Printer Access denied-HELP!

Don-

I am having the same problem, domain environment.

I haven't tried this yet (I'm at home), but then I started up the
Add a Printer wizard, one option was to add a printer by its
IP address. That probably means it will create a spooler to
drive the printer itself. Which will get you printing but sucks
because you can't see other people's print jobs in *your* queue.

If that's not what the Add-by-IP does, then you can always set up
a new spooler for the printer by choosing the Add a local printer
option instead of Add a Network printer, then choose create a new
port, Standard TCP/IP Port, you get a new IP_AAA.BBB.CCC.DDD
port. Like described above, you won't see print jobs from people
who are spooling from the main printserver, and HP printers' Jet
Direct interface seems to hang when being spooled to from multiple
hosts.

But if it works its better than not printing at all...

Good luck,
dq

I can't speak for Don, but yes indeed I can ping the printer IP just fine.

I've tried every manner of adding a network printer. They all fail to work.
This is under a domain environment, running in mixed mode.
