HP Laserjet 1012 solution (worked for me, anyway)

This eliminated the "unsupported personality" errors and seems to have fully
enabled the printer under Vista...I think it would work for any in the HP
1010 series.

Use the Vista Laserjet 1015 driver. One the driver is installed, open the
properties for your printer. Under the "Advanced" tab, press the Print
Processor button.

Select the WinPrint processor and Default data type of "Raw".

Once I did that, I was able to print multiple copies and print other
documents I was having problems with.

I have an HP Laserjet 1012 myself. I know that you can use the XP driver and
very painfully install it to have full support, or you can simply use the HP
Laserjet 1015 driver for full support as well.

I'm still getting the 'unsupported personality' error message after several prints.

I have hp 1012 printer with 1015 driver.

I see no Vista driver either 32 or 64 bit for any of the 1010 laserjet series. I called HP a couple of weeks ago and they really could not give me a reason to why there is no Vista support. I have 5 computers in the hopuse one being an HP laptop and 3 hp printers. I will assure you I WILL NOT BUY ANY HP products again. Vista has been out for months now and the RC version over a year. There is simply no need for these printers not to be supported by now.
Oh what's more is the customer service guy at hp told me he had been recieving MANY calls regarding this matter......Go figure

I too have the 1015 driver and the Print Processor set to "Raw" for my 1012
and it still does not work. The only work around I have been able to find is
to unplug the power from the printer and then power back on... It will work
for me for a few pages and then I have to rinse/repeat.

Re: HP Laserjet 1012 solution (worked for me, anyway)

I still find it very unprofessional and careless of HP to not support Vista for all of their products. I hope that Microsoft puts some presure on them to get their act together in this regard. It sounds like there the Laserjet 1012 is not the only printer that has no Vista support.

I have also noticed that a lot of Audio recording software and hardware do not support Vista. I have to run my (Steinberg) Cubase and my Presonus Firebox Audio interface on my old XP computer along with my 1012.

Maybe Microsoft needs to step up relations with some of these companies.

A lot of my friends refuse to get Vista because of all of the compatibility issues I am having.
