| | Windows Defender Definitions problem I've got a security center warning that my Defender definitions are out of date (version 1.15.2334.6, dated 5th March 2007). When I try to update the definitions with Defender, I get an error that the program couldn't update the defiinitions file (error code 0x80240029). Same problem if I try and update through Security Center. Windows Update is showing no updates available |

| | RE: Windows Defender Definitions problem I've been getting the same exact message for the last 2 days. I've called Microsoft only to be told by Teresa that since Windows Defender came pre-installed on my computer, I need to contact Toshiba for tech support OR accept their help for $95. After speaking with 4 different people at Toshiba trying 4 different "solutions", they directed me back to Microsoft, noting that they do not have a solution from Microsoft to pass along to me. They told me that I can access Microsoft tech support at no charge for 90 days from the day purchased my computer. So, I called Microsoft & spoke with Jean. She reiterated exactly what Teresa told me- they can only give me a solution when I pay them $95 & she directed me back to Toshiba for free help because Windows Defender was pre-installed on their computer. I'm not sure why Jean thinks Toshiba can give me a solution to a problem that Toshiba's needing Microsoft to give Toshiba a solution to. As you can imagine, I am completely frustrated. I need help! | | Re: Windows Defender Definitions problem Hi Shelli, Defender is installed with all Vista machines, it's part of the default setup. With an OEM vendor, such as Toshiba, the agreement between them and Microsoft is that the vendor is responsible for all support, and I do mean *all*. Microsoft will only provide paid support, Toshiba alone can provide free support. Call Toshiba back, if they refer you to Microsoft, ask them if they are buying. Did you, by chance, install OneCare?
