No conection to the Internet in Vista

I 've been trying to connect to the internet but it don't work. Instead the
diagnose problems dialog box keep telling me: "www.microsoft.com is not set
up to establish a conection on port world wide web services (HTTP) with this
computer". Curiosly the system of windows vista recognizes that i have a
connection to the internet, but when i try to open firefox, explorer,
limewire, etc, it won't work the connection.
What Can I do?

Re: No conection to the Internet in Vista

Hi,

Check the advanced settings of the connections' TCP/IP protocol and see if
it is set to accept an IP automatically or if it is hard coded to some local
address. It needs to be able to accept it automatically unless the hard
coded one and gateway are within the parameters set by the DHCP server.

It was a hardware problem with me, the modem lights would not settle down. Tech added a stub to the cable I'd been using for the past 4 years online.
No idea what the stubs purpose was. But it's obviously normal enough thathe didn't have to go to the truck for the part.
