Rolling a new laptop from Vista BACK to XP...

Is there a trick?

Vista is pretty with a bunch of new features, some useless, others helpful.

But none of my programs will support it yet. And I need these programs NOW.
so with my new laptop, how do I get XP back on there, and VISTA completely
removed?

There have been issues with all of the drivers not loading on Toshiba
laptops in particular...

or is there a way to get programs that only support XP to be recognized on
VISTA?

any help in this matter is greatly appreciated...

What kind of problems are you having? If they have to be run on XP you
might take a look at Virtual PC 2007. This would allow you to run XP in a
window on Vista.

Have you tried running any/all of your apps in compatibility mode?

Re: Rolling a new laptop from Vista BACK to XP...

Don't even think of rolling back to XP on a laptop unless you have
established by looking on the manufacturer's website that you can get
the specialized files a laptop needs for certain functions such as
mobile video, power management, Fn keys and so on.

Many manufacturers are not issuing XP files for models delivered with
VISTA. You might be lucky and find a very similar model which did have
XP on it but unless you do, backtracking can be risky.

You cannot "roll back", you will need to purchase XP, wipe your system, and
install. Make sure and download system drivers for your laptop and burn them
to disk before you start the process.

Unless you have a Windows XP license, you can't.
Have you tried Compatibility Mode?
Right click the icon, click Properties and click Compatibility tab.

What do the software manufacturers have to say about Vista
compatibility?
Ask other users of the same software about vista compatibility.
Post specifics here and someone may be able to give you a solution.
