What are these strange named files?

I have folders showing up in other file folders and storage devices with
very strange names like "{4c0fea28-58b2-4bce-a0f7-90b5069510c4}". They
contain absolutely nothing and properties show them taking up 0 bytes of
storage. Can I delete these and how and why are they generated?

    Hi,

They are generally leftovers from updates and can simply be deleted.

Files randomly named such as that are sometimes left over after
    performing Windows Updates.
    They may be safely deleted.
Reboot first and you may discover they are deleted after the reboot.
