Vista Ultimate startup issue

Hi,

I upgraded from Windows XP to Vista Ultimate and I now have a problem. When
I click on my username to log on, windows explorer pops up in "My Documents".
The explorer shell doesn't load, and I have to start the task manager, and
manually start explorer. Can anyone tell me what steps I need to take to
rectify this?

Thank you,
Maria

Hello,

It sounds like you have some startup programs / settings from your XP
install that did not get carried over correctly during the upgrade.
Or perhaps the install failed badly and your desktop is very damaged.

When I log into my Vista PC I get the desktop and the welcome center.
I have open Windows Explorer manually ( usually I just hit the windows
key and the E key to bring it up)

What do you mean by explorer shell? What do you do to manually start
explorer in the task manager?

Sorry to reply with just more questions, good luck

Re: Vista Ultimate startup issue

Explorer shell, as in the Desktop UI. What I do i ctrl+alt+del , launch Task
Manager, and run explorer.exe. That's when I get the desktop and task bar etc
etc, otherwise there's nothing there.

The installation went fine as far as I can tell, no problem reported and I
made sure I cleared any installation conflicts beforehand

Re: Vista Ultimate startup issue

Same thing happens to me, with windows vista bussiness pre-installed on my
laptop. When I start windows, only the "Documents" window appears, and I have
to launch explorer.exe to go on.

Re: Vista Ultimate startup issue

Try running SFC. sfc /scannow
click on command prompt run as administrator.
See if that helps find the problem.

Re: Vista Ultimate startup issue

No, I did that and it said there were some errors repaired, but it didn't
solve the issue of the "Documents" but no shell appearing at startup.

I still don't know how to solve this, please help!
