Email in Russian

I receive emails to my hotmail account written in Russian and the characters
are displayed as jibberish but I would like to read these emails.
Do I have to purchase special software to read these emails? Does Microsoft
have a download or are there special settings I can change?
Thanks...

RE: Email in Russian

That's could be a problem with your encoding settings. In IE7 go to Page,
Encoding and select what you need.

RE: Email in Russian

Mary,

Thanks...I have done that but it only allows me to type in Russian, not read
incoming emails in Russian characters...unless I am doing something wrong.

Windows Vista handles Cyrillic languages fine out of the box, as long as
they're using Unicode. So my guess is this is down to how the e-mail has
been encoded.

Does the following webpage display OK (alphabet in upper and lower case)
http://www.windowsresource.net/cyrillictest.htm

Re: Email in Russian

Paul - I can read the alphabet in upper and lower cases. What does that mean
for me? Downloading software? Purchasing software?
P.S. I have actually been to Yeovil!

It means your computer is working OK 8-) But something is either up with
Hotmail or how the e-mail is being sent.

Does this happen with all Cyrillic e-mails or just ones from a particular
sender?

You could try going to Control Panel -> Clock, Language and Region ->
Regional and Language Options -> Administrative -> Change system locale.
But I doubt if that'll have any effect on Hotmail but probably worth a try.

Re: Email in Russian

Thanks...I have made the location change to Kazakhstan. I will see if that
makes a difference. Do you have any other suggestions if this doesn't work?

Unfortuneatly not, Hotmail is out of my field of expertise. I'd be willing
to e-mail in a few different character sets to see if there is one specific
one causing the problem. I used to run into things like that with Windows
98 and ME, but never with XP and up.
