Vista - sound on laptop doen't function after installing vista

hello,

the sounds on my laptop are gone since I've installed vista, can anyone hlp
me with this? Acoording to the system the divece works and songs are playing
but I can't get any sound from the laptop.

I assume you went to the manufacturer's web page for the laptop and
downloaded any necessary drivers for said device from them for Vista?

What brand of laptop, and what kind of sound card does it say you have in
device manager? You might check to see if updated drivers are available on
the manufacturers website.

I have a similar problem with my Gateway laptop, but no updated drivers are
available, so I had to use USB speakers which work independent of the sound
card and work great.

Right click the speaker icon in your sys tray and check that nothing is
muted....
