Vista - Dell Dimension 9200 - Sound / Video problems

I've been experiencing audio and video errors causing multiple crashes since I got my new Dell PC. Every time I try to play certain video files downloaded from the net in media player (also tried vlc player), the pc crashes after about 10-15 seconds of play.

The first problem seems to be with the SigmaTel High Definition Audio Codec. I orignally got messages after reboot of "this driver is blocked due to compatibility issues". I have installed the latest drivers from the Dell support site but this hasn't resolved the problem. I have also installed all the usual codecs (divx etc.). When I unistalled the driver I get no problems playing the videos.

The second problem seems to be with the ATI Radeon X1300Pro 256mb graphics card. I get the following error message "Error Message: STOP 0x000000EA THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER (Q293078)" I have installed the latest ati drivers and have tried manually decreasing the hardware accelation (wont let me do this as the change settings tab is greyed out telling me the driver wont allow this functionality.)

I'm at my wits end as I cannot find a solution to this! I've been trawling through forums for help and it appears I'm not the only one with these problems but have yet to find out how (if!) to solve. Can any one help?

System spec:
Dell Dimension 9200 with Vista Home Premium
Intel Viv Core 2 Duo 6400 (2.13Ghz, 1066Mhz, 2MB)
2gig DDR2 667Mhz memory
256Mb ati Radeon X1300 graphics
Integrated audio with Dolby Digital 7.1

I have an XPS410 (same as the Dim9200 you have, just with a different front
bezel and the warranty support) with almost the same exact specs (E6600
instead of E6400 & 3GB of RAM instead of 2) and I've never seen this issue
crop up.

You might want to contact Dell and have a tech sent out as it sounds like it
could be a hardware fault.
