error opening .DOC attachments

I have error message when trying to open an attachment. I am told to create
an association in the set associations control panel. As far as i can see
this is already done. The Dell pc is 1 month old and came with vista
preinstalled. I have Mcafee antivirus preinstalled on it.
My knowledge of the pc is very limited and i am scared to try anything else,
not that i would know what to try anyway without advise.
Can anyone help please?

Re: error opening .DOC attachments

Microsoft Office's Word will open .doc files. You can download a two
month trial at http://us1.trymicrosoftoffice.com/de...?culture=en-US
After that they require you to pay $150 for the home & student version.

While you're using it, you could evaluate its advantages over OpenOffice,
which also will open .doc files. You don't have to pay for OpenOffice.

RE: error opening .DOC attachments

Hello,

Do you have Microsoft Word (or something compatible like OpenOffice)
installed on your PC? If not, that would be the source of your problem.

Re: error opening .DOC attachments

Yes, Microsoft works has its own word processor called Works Word Processor.
The simplest way to open this will be to locate Works Word Processor in your
start menu and open that. Then click file>open and locate the .doc file you
have spoken of and this should open the file.

You can set up an association with the .doc file extension meaning you will
be able to just click the icon of the .doc file and it will open. Let me
know if you wish to do this.

Re: error opening .DOC attachments

did you save the attachment to somewhere like your desktop?

if not save it there and open works and open it again.

Re: error opening .DOC attachments

open them in word & unpassword them, then convert them if you must to works.
works is a basic program, word is much more powerful.
