Buying Vista from the U.S.

Our much beloved Microsoft have racked up the prices for us poor North
Europeans compared to Americans by at least 50%. Do you know whether we can
order Vista from the States or will it not work on European computers?

Re: Buying Vista from the U.S.

Short answer: probably

Long answer: http://www.microsoft.com/exporting/faq.htm

more specifically: http://www.microsoft.com/exporting/faq.htm#vista

It depends on what country you're in.

Just make sure that it does not come with all the language features
disabled!

I've just had to let MS validate my licence so that I can download an update
which enables me to display the Help in Office 97 and I presume similar
vintage windows applications.

Why was this update not included. - I recon that it is a deliberate ploy by
MS to ensure that I am running legitimate software.

The best way to do it is have someone in the States buy you a copy and
send it to you via Global Priority US Mail. That's how I got a new copy
of XP Pro and it works fine here in Spain, activated and was declared
genuine.

Not sure how much it is in the states but Ultimate OEM is about £130 in the

Europeans compared to Americans by at least 50%.<<<<<

That's because the EU sued Microsoft and MS had to create a special version
for the EU plus pay a fine. The money has to come from somewhere. Costs go
up when government meddles in Private Enterprise.

Re: Buying Vista from the U.S.

I don't think that's anything to do with it.
Just about everything in Europe is more expensive than in the US.
