Vista Upgrade-Sound not working

I just upgraded my HP Pavilion m1000y Media Center to Vista Ultimate 32-bit.
The sound button on the bottom right corner has an X over it and says "No
Audio Output Device is Installed." When I go to the Device Manager, under
"Sound, video, and game controllers' it shows "Hauppage WinTV-PVR PCI II
(Encoder-16)". Then, under other devices, it shows "Multimedia Audio
Controller" with a yellow exclamation point over it. How should I go about
solving this problem? Thank you.

Re: Vista Upgrade-Sound not working

You can do 2 things to resolve this:

1. In device manager, right click on the multimedia audio controller and
then click on update driver. Follow the instructions to search for the
driver and, if found, install it. This may not give you the latest &
greatest driver for your sound. It also may not know what to get.
2. Do you know what sound card you have? If you do not have a Vista driver
for it already, go to its website and see if one is available. Read the
instructions and install accordingly.

I know my install came up similarly for Creative Audigy 2zs. I got the
driver off their site, installed and had sound after a reboot.

Good luck.

Re: Vista Upgrade-Sound not working

I did try that and it didn't work. Also, I did to a clean install of Vista. I
thought the Hauppage input was my sound card? How do I found what sound card
I have? Thanks.

Apparently you need a Vista compatible driver.

Based on the info I could find at the following
Hauppage sites...the driver you need is not
available. Maybe contacting Hauppauge Support
would be worth a try.

Re: Vista Upgrade-Sound not working

The Hauppauge card is a video pvr card -- NOT an audio controller

Right click the Multimedia Audio Controller icon in Device Manager and
check to see who the manufacturer is and then download the appropriate
Vista drivers from their web site.

Re: Vista Upgrade-Sound not working

Go to the HP website, and look up the specs for your computer. you should
also be able to download drivers from the HP support site, but if not at
least it should tell you what sound card you have.

The Manufacturer is unknown.

Re: Vista Upgrade-Sound not working

Click on Details tab of the devices Properties page and select Manufacturer from the Property drop down list.
Or call HP. I have a HP a1540n and the built in audio controller is Realtek.
Also check the HP site and see if the audio controller is listed on the specifications page for your m1000y.
NOTHING from Hauppauge will help you.

Re: Vista Upgrade-Sound not working

Also see if the HP site has updated Vista audio drivers for your m1000y.
Or check the XP updates page and it might list the audio controller there

Re: Vista Upgrade-Sound not working

Here is a new update. Vista actually installed a driver for Realtek AC'97
Audio. That eliminated the "No Audio Output Device is Installed" problem. It
says the sound is on, and that the speakers are working, but no sound is
coming. The multimedia controller still has its error message, but, I was
prompted to go to the Creative website to download a driver for Creative
Audigy Audio Processor (WDM). What is that?
