| | Compatibity Issues I have set up a home network. My main pc is running xp and my laptop is running vista. I have a couple programs on the main pc that are not compatible with vista. Is there anything I can use to run these programs on the lap top using the network? If not would it be possible to connect these to computers with remote desktop and run the non compatible programs with the laptop running vista? If so I could use some instruction on how to configure remote desk top. I am trying to avoid dumping a new operating system, and purchasing another version of xp to run these programs. (I did try the program compatibility tab in vista to run these programs, but no luck) Thanks much for any help! Tom |

| | Re: Compatibity Issues You might try remote desktop. Depending on the network speed, you could get things done. You may also look into a program called VNC, which is similar and very easy to setup. But, actually running the program over the network on the laptop wouldn't work. You'd still be running the executable in Vista. Remote desktop would be the best option. -- Dustin Harper dharper@vistarip.com http://www.vistarip.com -- "Tom M." <tmuntz@thebindery.com> wrote in message news:u1H24bvcHHA.4260@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... >I have set up a home network. | | Re: Compatibity Issues I would try remote desktop, but in the help section for remote desktop in vista, it said you cannot connect to a computer running XP home. Can I download something to my XP home computer to make it work? | | Re: Compatibity Issues Did you try to install program as administrator? I installed all my old programs and they work fine, after you install the prog set the security to allow your user profile.
