Vista Tutorial - OUTLOOK 2007 & VISTA VERY SLOW

I bought a new laptop 2GB memory dual core,etc with OEM vista and Outlook
2007. Outlook is very very slow imgaine that to write an email of 3 lines it
takes 15 min. Please advice hoe can i speed up outlook and be able to work!

I would consider that kind of performance unacceptable. Was Office
factory installed or a copy you installed yourself ? First, I'd visit the
Office update site and make sure your copy is fully updated. If the
notebook is brand new, it may be trying to build your Indexing catalogs
and that takes a heavy hit on performance. Is the lag only present on
Outlook or do other programs exhibit this problem as well ?

Thank you for the reply! Index is completed but still the outlook is very
slow and when outlook is open then all programs are slow. Also in the task
manager i have noticed that SQL 2005 is eating the ram as well. The office
was factory installed. also i made sure that all updates were installed! Any
ideas to make it faster as it is killing me when i want to use my email?

Next step would probably be to use SysInternals ProcessExplorer to
monitor the system while Outlook is open/running. I'd check the logs
in System/Application and see if Office is triggering errors. Not sure
why SQL would be installed ? Do you have any 3rd-Party security
software that might be "Hooking" into Outlook such as a SPAM filter ?
If it's like most OEM notebooks it probably came loaded with extra
programs that may need purging as they tend to load the system down.

What does "write an email of 3 lines it takes 15 min" mean? Typing speed?
Display speed? Sending speed?

Are you configured for Outlook to use a remote .pst file?

Are you connected to your mail server?
