Laptop freezes cannot reboot

I have a brand new Toshiba Satellite laptop and on a regular basis I can be
just browsing and it freezes the little vista circle is the only thing that
is active. I cannot reboot, ctl+Shift+del doesnt work , the only way I can
reboot is to let the battery die and connect to main power. The only thing I
have done to this computer is download updates.
Thanks to anyone who may be able to help.

Is it anything in particular that causes the freeze? Certain website(s) or
anything, or is it totally random?
Does it only freeze when you are browsing? What about doing other stuff?

Do you mean Ctrl-Alt-Del? If not, what is Ctrl-Shift-Del supposed to do?

If it does lock and you can't get out of it, with most Laptops, if you hold
the power button down for 5-10 seconds, it will force the computer to switch
off. Not much better, but at least you don't have to wait hours for the
battery to run out...

Re: Laptop freezes cannot reboot

I meant to say ctl+shift+esc they are the new keys for vista task manager, in
all previous freezes I have tried holding down the power button and it hasnt
worked miraculously it worked this time. I don't have to be doing anything
more than looking at files on my hard drive. It came preinstalled with
Norton's and not much more. I will look in event viewer to see if the issue
is listed in there. Thank you for a very quick reply

Re: Laptop freezes cannot reboot

Try right-clicking on your task bar across the bottom, and then select Task
Manager. Have a look what processes are working, memory being used, etc, and
see what could causing the problem

Could be a problem with Norton(?) It is probably trying to run 'On-Demand'
scans if you are browsing files etc.
Try temporarily disabling Norton and see if the problem goes away...
