Vista - setting default programs in Vista

I want to add Winamp to my Default Programs list. I do not see a way to do
this.

Any help will be appreciated.

You can set your default programs by clicking Start, and then clicking
Default Programs on the right side of the Start menu. You can learn about

Sorry, this is all no help. I know how to find Default Programs, and I see
what is listed. The only third party software listed is Firefox. I also have
Winamp, RealPlayer, Adobe, Seamonkey, etc.

I want to be able to have them on the list. That is what i need to know how
to do.

Sorry my first effort did not help you solve your problem. Here is some more
information. It is up to the manufacturers of programs to write them so that
they'll appear in Default Programs. This is why certain programs, such as
Firefox, appear while others might not. There is no way for you to add
individual programs to Default Programs. However, if what you want to
accomplish is associate certain file types with certain programs, you can do
that manually:

1. Click Start.
2. Click Default Programs.
3. Click Associate a file type or protocol with a program.
4. Select a file type from the list, and then click Change program.
5. Select the program you want to use.

If the program isn't listed, click the Browse button to find it.

Thanks, your explanation makes perfect sense.

Not being totally bereft of experience and resources, I am in fact running
as defaults what I want, which are Firefox and Winamp. I have played around
with it and have also had RealPlayer and SeaMonkey browser running as
defaults.

I just thought that they should be showing up.

I just installed iTunes, which is not going to last long, and it did install
itself into the Default Programs list, so I see what you are talking about.
