| | Can't Install Adobe Acrobat Reader - Error Temp directory is full I just bought a new computer with Vista Home Professional. I am trying to install Acrobat, but it gives me an error Temp directory is full or inaccessible. I checked the c:\windows\temp attributes and it is read only. I changed it at least 10 times, but it reverts back to read only. I tried both from the Vista as well as command prompt. I am logged on as an Administrator. I also assigned myself as an owner of the directory c:\windows\temp. No luck. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Regards. |

| | RE: Can't Install Adobe Acrobat Reader - Error Temp directory is full Make sure you are installing the free Reader, not Acrobat which is not free. It's here: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html If you are installing the expensive Acrobat from installation disks, right click on the install file and Run as Administrator. That's because Adobe has yet to provide a version of Acrobat Reader that's Vista-compatible. Documents on their website says that they expect to have full Vista support sometime later this year. In the meantime (and especially since Acrobat Reader has become little more than bloatware), try using Foxit Reader (http://www.foxitsoftware.com/). It's free, much smaller than Adobe's overgrown offering, and it works on Vista now. -- Bruce Chambers Help us help you: http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. -Benjamin Franklin Many people would rather die than think; in fact, most do. -Bertrand Russell |

Try to manually extract the install files by copy them from the temp folder. So: -download from adobe 8.0 and run it, until it gives the error -do not close the window! -go to the temp folder the error is about. -copy files from temp folder to another folder. -close the error message (temp folder will be emptyed) -start the install from your new folder. good luck Sjoerd |

| | Re: Can't Install Adobe Acrobat Reader - Error Temp directory is full Bruce I agree with you regarding Foxit. This put a slightly more positive slant regarding Adobe Acrobat Reader http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowled....cfm?id=333643 -- Regards. | | Have you turned UAC off? If so, turn it on and then install reader. You can turn it off again after installing. Or, install reader in compatibility mode. Windows XP compatibility works fine. |

In the belief that you were referring to Adobe Reader, I had a similar problem. Adobe Acrobat 8.0 Professional installed with no problem. I was able to successfully install Adobe Reader 7.0.6. Don't let it try to update, or 7.0.8 will be a problem. Now 7.0.6 has a security vulnerability that should be avoided. Solution? Uninstall the Reader. Download and install the free Foxit Reader 2.0 http://www.foxitsoftware.com Where the installed Adobe Reader requires 69MB of space the Foxit reader only requires 3.9MB. |
