Dos & Vista

Hi,
Is it possible to execute an older Dos-program on Vista and if yes how?

Regards
Huib

Re: Dos & Vista

Vista like XP has some support for SOME dos apps... it is not true dos,
rather an emulation
since dos was removed from windows after win98

If you want better dos support you can use this:
http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/news.php?show_news=1

or if you are a more advanced user you can use a virtual machine to load the
real dos inside.

Re: Dos & Vista

Windows Me if I can remember correctly.. it was hidden somehow...
They changed something with dos on Me...

cant remember much because I tried to avoid Me as much as possible...
and never was much of a games fan.. so i didnt care much about dos
compatibility.

Me bad quality... the same crappy quality vista has. As I say.. Vista is the
Me of NT :-)

Re: Dos & Vista

For a user who has been 'duped' by Windows for so many years, you seem to
upgrade to latest versions with the least hesitation.

As others have already posted, you can run some (most?) older DOS
programs under Vista, but there are a couple of things to consider.
One, you have to be running a 32-bit version of Vista since the 64-bit
versions do not include support for 16-bit / DOS programs. Two, Vista
doesn't support full-screen command prompt / DOS programs, but you can
usually get close if you fiddle with the font size.

As to how to run it, it depends on the program. Generally, you would
install it just like you would in DOS and either run it from a command
prompt or create a shortcut to the program and run it that way.

Regards,

Dave
