Will not auto-sleep

Vista will not go to sleep automatically. The screen turn dark but machine
will not sleeep. Even after a clean re-start.

If I manually press the sleep button on the keyboard it works fine.

Why will it not auto-sleep

You need a bigger sledge hammer ;-)

Check the power settings to verify the length of time before sleep is to
occur. Is this an upgraded computer or a new computer? Possibly legacy
hardware is preventing it also.

Re: Will not auto-sleep

If I set it to 2 minutes or 1 hours it does not matter.

It is a brand new Vista based PC. Infact I have 4 of them!

It could be a program that is running. I would start looking at
programs that you have installed. see what ones run processes and
disable them one at a time see if you can track down what it is. It
could also be a driver problem. I'm not sure if power settings are
active in Safe Mode, but try it and see if sleep occurs in Safe Mode.
If it does, it is probably a driver preventing it.

Re: Will not auto-sleep

If I click the sleep button it sleeps. It I let it do it automatically it
does not. same programs must be running.

I can re-boot and not open anything and the result is the same.

Re: Will not auto-sleep

Do you have you sidebar up? And if so do you have the analog clock?

That kept my machine from sleeping or in fact going into the screen saver...

Re: Will not auto-sleep

I turned off the Media Cener's updates and that seems to have done the trick
(so far)

Re: Will not auto-sleep

Following things helped me out:
Turn off auto updates (Start -> control panel -> security center -> automatic updating: change settings: turn off)

Turn off steam or msn.

Hope this helps for others?
