Strange Vista boot times

Hey

I’m really sorry to bother everyone but I’m a little worried about my PC

I’ve heard reports that some people are having issues with Vista’s boot and
shut down time, but normally my PC takes about 30 seconds to load Vista and
as soon as I log in it’s ready to use but this evening it had taken about 3-5
minutes to boot

I had done nothing to the PC than I normally would do, which is just browse
online, listen to music, and maybe do a little work, so for this sudden drop
in performance is a little strange but hat is even stranger though is what
happened next

After this long boot time I turned shut down the PC for a few minutes and
the tried again, but this time Vista only took about 10 seconds to load,
which, even to my normal start up is pretty fast, but once I logged in I got
an awful sound coming from the HDD for a few seconds before it stopped and
returned to normal

I turned shut down the PC yet again to see about the start up time and yet
again I got a 10 second load time, but this time without the awful HDD sound

It just seems really strange that all of a sudden my PC took minutes to load
and just a matter of seconds, but if anyone knows why this has happened then
I would be very grateful

Thank you

Re: Strange Vista boot times

10 seconds?
I would almost guarantee you selected sleep not shut down.
On my dual boot XP Pro/Vista Ultimate system with no other applications
loaded, the XP pro loaded about 15 seconds faster.

Re: Strange Vista boot times

I shut my PC down durning the evening and it is still loading up in about
10-15 seconds, but I'm sure that I didn't put it into Sleep mode because I
never use it and also in Sleep you don't get the Vista boot screen, you just
go right to your desktop

From the time I turn my PC on, to the time I log in is about 10-15 seconds,
but the best way I can describe it is that it is acking as though I've just
installed the OS for the first time (it has been on my PC since the 30th of
January though) but I don't know why the extra 20 seconds has gone, although
I don't have a problem with my PC loading up faster :-) I would just like to
know what has made it done it :-)
