Vista - Logitech Mouse Drivers

This may be documented elsewhere but just in case...

I managed to mess up my new Dell Dimension E520
with Vista Premium by using the SW on CD that came
with a Logitech Cordless mouse.

With Vista the Logitech drivers seem superfluous
and moreover possible harmful to the system.

Uninstalling the Logitech SW didn't help and Logitech
tech support could help either. I had to rebuild from scratch.

Maybe there were ways around it but I couldn't find them.

Symptoms..

Booting up resulted in a brief flash of the Vista desktop
then a weird noise and a black screen with dead mouse and keyboard.

Is your Vista working now on the Dell or do you need help with any
particular problem?

I'm sorry you had this trouble. My experience with every build of Vista
including RTM, and a Logitech MX Laser 1000 Mouse is that the mouse worked
when I installed it, and it always had the correct mouse driver.

My approach on any CD that comes with hardware is not to use it, (because
many times particularly when a new Windows OS has been introduced, the CD's
driver will be out of date by the time you buy it. If I need the driver
after plugging in the hardware via USB to the box first, I go to the
website of the device manufacturer.

Hmmmmmm I am using Logitechs set point version 3.30.165 and have no
issues at all.........are you sure you are using the correct drivers
for Vista?

Try booting your system into safe mode.........I highly doubt
installing your logitech software caused your PC to crash as you
described.

The mouse did work immediately but for some reason or other
I then went and installed the logitech code without thinking.

I acknowledge the CD was 3 years old.

It was an old (3 years) cd.

I reinstalled Vista from ground zero and everything is now OK...
better in fact since I've left off loads of crap I didn't want.
eg. stuff I'd have to pay for after 30 days, extra ISPs, etc.
