| | Power Button - annoyance - in Vista I know it's possible to change the behavior of the new 'power button' on the start menu to actually power down the PC rather than go to Standby -- however is there a way to REMOVE it altogether? (other than switching to the classic start menu) ? I've hit it a few times myself, and others testing out Vista have as well, especially when making a quick dash for start->Run. I can't believe Microsoft put it there, where it's so easy to accidentally hit it and either sleep or shutdown a PC -- and they didn't even put a CONFIRM dialog before such a major function! Bad design, IMHO. |

| | Re: Power Button - annoyance - in Vista You can change th powe buton in start menu to power down somewhere in power options, but you are right about the confirm dialog... | | Re: Power Button - annoyance - in Vista Good idea Still, old tricks are hard to break, and the common user willjust be clicking around -- it's kinda a dangerous button, IMHO- standby is less problematic than shutdown tho. | | Re: Power Button - annoyance - in Vista Yea, that's how I have mine setup (because I dislike Standby, since Windows needs a good restart regularly to perform optimally) - a confirm dialog would be nice - otherwise, one mis-click, and your PC is powered down (or in standby). ![]() "Mihic" wrote: > You can change th powe buton in start menu to power down somewhere in power > options, but you are right about the confirm dialog... > > > > "Sal" <Sal@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:8503216B-D275-4934-9CDA-A68A3423232F@microsoft.com... > >I know it's possible to change the behavior of the new 'power button' on > >the > > start menu to actually power down the PC rather than go to Standby -- > > however > > is there a way to REMOVE it altogether? | | Re: Power Button - annoyance - in Vista I just went in to play with that, and one of my options is to set it to "Do Nothing," which may be better than what it's set to do now, which is to shut off the computer everytime I hit it by mistake! I for one am happy not to get a confirmation to shut down my PC when I hit the power button. I do agree there should be an option to turn confirmation dialogs on or off though. I'd appreciate it if someone would post the instructions or a link to make it actually shut down. I suppose it may be a permissions problem for me. -Paul Randall |
