My cd's and dvd's aren't working

Ok. I have a HP Pavilion Entertainment PC(it's a laptop) of course it has Vista(duh)
anyway, i put in my music cd and when i go to windows media, it says "cd drive required to rip music from cd". i check the "my computer icon" and it only shows C: and D: hard drive. what happened the E:?
Is there suppose to be an E:? Please help

come on, people. i know ur there. there is about 240 ppl viewing this board. at least one should know the solution
