| Guest | Pentium D 3.0GHz 64-bit capable or not? My computer specs are: Windows Vista Home Premium Pentium D 3.0GHz 2GB Ram GeForce 7800GTX 256MB Soundblaster Audigy 2 I had a question regarding my processor. I know that it's a 64-bit processor, however when looking around Windows I'm getting conflicting information (see screenshot). Does this mean I need to update my bios or chipset driver? I'm a bit confused. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...titled-1-5.jpg |

I'm a bit confused. There's no conflict there at all. The X86 is the family name. Your CPU can run 64-bit programs and OS. Tom Lake |

| Guest | Re: Pentium D 3.0GHz 64-bit capable or not? Hi, You have a processor capable of 64-bit, but you may have the 32-bit version of Vista installed. For most preinstalled systems, this is normal. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org "Mike" <Mike@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:2B55217D-4A66-4D22-AE13-53358F317F86@microsoft.com... > My computer specs are: > > Windows Vista Home Premium > Pentium D 3.0GHz > 2GB Ram > GeForce 7800GTX 256MB > Soundblaster Audigy 2 > > I had a question regarding my processor. | Guest | Re: Pentium D 3.0GHz 64-bit capable or not? Unless you're doing some hefty computing, you will only have headaches with the lack of 64-bit capable drivers. Many devices do not yet have these drivers. "Tom Lake" <tlake@twcny.rr.com> wrote in message news:46EBE6DC-4361-472D-804B-B155F024E176@microsoft.com... > >> I had a question regarding my processor.
