Regaining hard drive space ?

This is an XP question but everyone has been so helpful I thought you
wouldn`t mind . I have taken a bunch of programs off my original 60 gb drive
that came with my Dell 4550 and yet the free space still says 19 gb . Even
after I uninstalled F.E.A.R. it still said 19 gb free and before 24 gb free (
FEAR takes up 5 gb ) . So is it possible to regain disc space ? I know that
simply deleting something doesn`t mean it magically dissapears . I`ve done
disc defragments but I`ve never formatted either of my drives . Any help
would be appreciated ......... Brian

Also , I`ve been accepted into The Chubb Institute taking the year course
on Networking/Security it covers alot of stuff and I should be certified on
about 6 or 7 categories when I`m done Cysco probably being the most important
, now if I can just find $17000,00 laying around I`ll be set :~)

Re: Regaining hard drive space ?

Perhaps your hard drive is divided into several partitions. For example, the
partition that you are looking at might be 40 GB with 19 GB free. Another
thought, have all the files that you deleted been removed from the Recycle
Bin? If not, the hard drive space is still allocated to them.

EMPTY the recycle bin to reclaim disk space. If you also have some
half-ass undelete so-called "protection" software like Norton's
protection of the recycle bin or whatever it is called you may have to
disable that or do something before it allows you to empty the recycle
bin.

Re: Regaining hard drive space ?

After emptying the recycle bin, defrag the disk and see what you have.
