| | Blocked Program popup notification When I disable programs in the MSCONFIG startup tab, I get a blocked program popup every time that I start Windows. Is there any way to kill this popup? XP just had a check box to kill it but can't find one in Vista. |

| | Re: Blocked Program popup notification I turned off the UAC and rebooted. The same window that is in XP came up telling me I had changed the configuration and I was able to check the box to tell it not to show the message again. Control panel User Accounts Turn user controls On or Off u-click the box that turns on user controls (UAC) Click OK Restart the computer Since then, I have found you can disable some startup programs in Windows Defender. I don't know if the same message would pop up by working that direction or not. Open Windows Defender Tools Software Explorer In category box, select: Startup Programs Select the program you want disabled and click disable Click YES to confirm Repeat the last two for any programs you want to stop running in the background "glamart" <glamartNS@NScomcast.net> wrote in message news:%23uKfuiigHHA.1216@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl... > When I disable programs in the MSCONFIG startup tab, I get a blocked > program popup every time that I start Windows. | | Re: Blocked Program popup notification Hi, Rather than use msconfig, check within that program's options, settings, or preferences for an option to not load at startup. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org "glamart" <glamartNS@NScomcast.net> wrote in message news:%23uKfuiigHHA.1216@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl... > When I disable programs in the MSCONFIG startup tab, I get a blocked > program popup every time that I start Windows. Click on that icon in the notification area, hold the pointer over Run blocked programs. When the list of blocked programs appears it should have System Configuration Utility on it. Click on that to allow it to run. Then on the ensuing dialog box check the box to not have it alert again. It won't appear until the next time you make a change with msconfig and reboot. This mechanism is in place to block any programs that run at startup that ask for admin privileges. They are blocked until you give that permission. If you turn off UAC, any piece of software including malware that wants to run with admin privileges at startup that got on your system before you restarted will run without you knowing it. -- Rock [MS-MVP User/Shell] |
