Vista - pre-installing driver on new system

Hi,

I hope I'm not making a NG faux pas by dropping in with a quick question,
but if someone can post an answer it would really help a LOT. I've already
looked all around for an answer.

I've built a new system from scratch. It's done, and now when the OS (I
have both W2000 & Vista basic) starts to install, I get a message saying no
hard drives (Seagate & WD SATA raid) are recognized. They show up fine in
BIOS though.

I downloaded an .exe from the motherboard website (Gigabyte) that I'm
supposed to pre-execute, and then when windows looks for hardware, I press
F6. They don't provide a simple driver file for me to save on a floppy or
CD that I could access during installation.

How do I run an .exe on a system that doesn't have an OS running yet?

I don't even see a way to interrupt the bootup except to go into BIOS etc.

Is there a way to run the .exe to install the driver before I install
windows?
Or is there a way to extract a hard disk driver from the windows
installation CD?

When you start Setup for XP (by booting with the XP cd) you will see a
message at the bottom of the screen during file copying (very early in the
process) that tells you to press F6 if you want to add any drivers. Press
F6 and follow the instructions as to when to insert the floppy with the
driver. You don't have but a few seconds to press F6. Be sure to remove
the floppy after Setup moves on since the computer will reboot at some point
to continue the installation and you want the floppy out before then.

When you start Setup for Vista you will reach a screen that has a Load
Drivers button on it. Click on the Load Drivers button and follow the
instructions.

Correction: My instructions mentioned "XP" and I meant to say "Win 2000."
The F6 procedure is identical for both Win 2000 and XP.
