Using Xbox remote control on Vista PC

I can get hold of an Xbox remote control and the packaging claims that it's
compatible with "Windows Media Center". I presume that this media the XP
version.

Two questions.

1. Will it work with Vista Media Center?
2. Do I need to buy a separate infrared receiver to use it or does it come
with one?

Cheers.

Bobby

Re: Using Xbox remote control on Vista PC

1. If the remote says it's Media Center compatible then it should be, but
no guarantees.
2. Yes, the computer will need an infrared receiver if it does not have one
already.

Re: Using Xbox remote control on Vista PC

Thanks Richard.

The "official" (PC) Media Center remote (for PC) comes with a IR receiver so
that sounds a better deal. (Although the Xbox remote looks nicer)

Re: Using Xbox remote control on Vista PC

I don't have an XBox so I can't say for certain - but I can say that the
original Media Center remote kit works just fine with Vista. :-)

Re: Using Xbox remote control on Vista PC

Hi,

I know this is an old thread but thought i would bring it back to life.

I have an xbox hddvd remote, will this work in vista?

Now that hddvd's are history, i'd hate for the remote to just go to waste.

Also has anyone gotten comcast tv to work on their computer? If so how?

I would have though that the remote would still work with the XBox while you
use it through the Extender from your Vista PC.

The best place to ask about this sort of thing is at The Green Button, or
AVForums.

Hmm, maybe it would, but i don't actually have the xbox. hehe.

I only bought the hddvd player, which came with the remote.

I'll try the links, thanks.

As far as I can remember, the receiver is on the XBox anyway, so I cannot
see how you expected to use it at all.

It's possible that the XBox HD remote would work with the normal MCE
receiver for PCs. I have the MCE Remote and receiver, and in fact, I only
use Vista (Ultimate) as an OS for my HTPC. It's the only substantial thing
that it is better than XP at (unless you are the sort of person that ever
got malware).
