Question regarding missing time zones

I want to set the time zone on my computer to GMT (for the UK). But the drop
down list in Control Panel shows only GMT (Casablanca, Monrovia, Reykjavik)
which, unlike the UK, doesn't appear to operate daylight saving time. No
mention of London or Dublin! Also there are no time zones either +1 hour or
-1 hour, so none of the major Westen European cities seem to be catered for.
The next zones are -3 hours (Montevideo) or +2 hours (Amman). I have
definitely set my region to the UK. Can anyone help, please?

RE: Question regarding missing time zones

I clicked on the time display (extreme lower right of screen) which presented
the following option -

(GMT) Greenwich Mean Time : Dublin, Edinburgh, Lisbon, London

RE: Question regarding missing time zones

Hello troutman. You have what I would like to have! GMT with London, Dublin,
etc simply isn't one of the available time zones on my list!

RE: Question regarding missing time zones

Perhaps I should also have mentioned that my downloaded TV guide seems to be
an hour out, but I'm sure it is all connected with the same thing, i.e.
inability to select the correct time zone!

Re: Question regarding missing time zones

Hi, Warky.

I'm with troutman. London time IS an option in my copy of Vista Ultimate
x64.

Which version of Vista are you running? Did you install it from a Retail
DVD-ROM, or from a DVD that you burned?

Re: Question regarding missing time zones

Hi R.C.

It is Vista Home Premium 64-bit that was pre-loaded by an established local
computer retailer onto a brand new machine. I also have the genuine disc. All
100% legitimate as far as I am aware.

Re: Question regarding missing time zones

Hi, Warky.

Sorry if it sounded like I was accusing you of piracy. But some users who
downloaded Vista from MSDN and burned their own DVD had problems, with
corruption either in the download or in the burning process.

In your case, I don't understand why one of many time zones would be
missing. There WAS an update to deal with the Daylight Saving Time change
that affected the USA and much of the world, but I wouldn't expect that to
relate to your problem. Just in case, though, have you visited Windows
Update lately?

My Time Zone drop-down menu shows two lines for GMT:
(GMT) Casablanca, Monrovia, Reykjavik
(GMT) Greenwich Mean Time: Dublin, Edinburgh, Lisbon, London

Have you spoken to your computer retailer? Have other customers reported a
similar problem?

Re: Question regarding missing time zones

Hi RC,

Thanks for the reply. Windows updates are presented to me on almost a daily
basis through the shutdown button on the start menu. I always accept them
upon shut down and they seem to install successfully.

I have spoken to the retailer about this and they attribute it to a bug in
Windows (which probably means they don't know!). They don't know why it would
affect me and not others, but tried to reassure me that over time Microsoft
would provide updates to fix such problems. I'm no technical expert so was
not in a position to argue.

The computer has been had some attention from the retailer since purchase
(including a replacement motherboard!) but nothing I could logically connect
to the time zone issue!
