Cannot Install ZoneAlarm

Zonealarm 70_337_00 stops instal at 4% in Vista Home
Tried "Recomended settings " and running in XPSP2 mode
and it does not install - I tried to uncheck windows firewall
too , and it stops responding at 4%.
Although there is a support page at Zonelabs , there where
no topics concerning this issue.
Is Zonealarm incompatible with Vista ? If so , any free
firewall working with Vista ?
Thanks

It appears ZoneLabs hasn't released a Vista compatible version as yet though
they have one in beta:

You could try Windows Firewall until it's released or you might try getting
into the Zone Alarm beta.

Re: Cannot Install ZoneAlarm

Nothing for the version of ZA that you are trying to install says that it is
designed for Vista.

They are now actively testing a version that is.

If you are behind a router/firewall, then the Windows Firewall is
sufficient.

Actually if one is behind a NAT router, no firewall should be necessary at
all. Hmmm, then again, maybe with Windoze, piling condoms on top of condoms
is still necessary.

Doris,
Some folks like the multiple layers. Just last week, I picked up a computer
from a club member with the request to clean out the viruses that his
anti-virus program had missed. He couldn't figure out how why he couldn't
get anything done. He had repeatedly turned the Windows Firewall on, was
behind a router and had installed both Norton Internet Security 2007 and a
priced version of Zone-Alarm on a Windows XP system!!!
He wanted to "protect his assets." He did nothing other than play Free Cell
and look at his occasional e-mail messages, no banking, no on-line
purchases. That comes with the territory in a retirement community.

Oh Doris...for some reason I actually thought you were smarter than that.
Mark me disappointed. :-(

Personally, I believe ZA is incompatible with everything, it's on my
list of malware. There are other firewalls including the built-in one,
I know of none that will cause the conflicts and problems that ZA
routinely causes.

XS11E:

Interesting:

I have been running ZA beta f/w in Vista for about a month without any
problems.

Very nice f/w IMO.

If it works for you, that's great. But sooner or later....

I will say one good thing about ZA, they have been VERY good about
admitting their screwups and issuing fixes and that's more than I can
say for some software companies.
