that people would demand XP because of vista's problems..
and that prediction was back when vista was still in beta! lol

HP's are sold at fine retailers like Sears & WalMart.
You can find all kinds of qualified tech support from the knowledable sales
staff, like Fred, who only 1 hour earlier sold somebody a refrigerator in
the next aisle.

Have you ever worked on an HP box? Have you seen the inferior parts, the
mainstream junk that was new 5 years ago that HP throws together with the
latest OS? Once you boot up an HP gem, take a look at the crap they load
up. AOL, Earthlink, other crap that I don't even want to think about.
Stuff that slows any computer to a crawl.

I could go on, but I'm going outside for a nice walk because it's still 80
degrees outside with sunshine. Nice to go out and get away from a screen.

I think this story is getting more exposure in places outside the US,
like UK and Australia.

I've heard that Macro$haft is offering something called XP-starter
edition in India or China for like $3. Yes, three dollars. But it's
heavily handicapped, and it's not selling well:

This is the business range that one rarely sees on the shelves of consumer
stores, and they are supplied 'box' only.. HP are as aware as most that
business is always slower to take up new technology than the guy on the
street who is looking more for bragging rights than a stable and well
understood OS that has to support mission critical work.. I daresay that a
look at Dells business range would reveal the same pattern..

Yes, home users are a different ball game.

As for businesses... I know of at least one large company
that aren't even going to consider Vista until next year and for
a company like my former employer with say 5000 pc's moving
to Vista is a huge project that could easily take 18 months
with planning, testing and roll out. HP and Dell simply can't
force Vista on such customers without losing business.
