Vista - A first from Dell: giving customers a choice of Windows operating systems

Don't mean to butt in. But Gary...I trust your input.
Could all this,OP, be a result from ,like, a major local university
here(And has a purchase contract with Dell) has anounced it will not use
Vista and that faculty and students use XP machines to connect to their
servers.
Companies that upgraded to Vista are scrambling to get XP back because they
can't afford the lost income from constant problems they are experiencing
with Vista. Plus the costs of hardware and software upgrades to run a Vista
network.
I have not heard of the OS choice by Dell.
But from what I have heard about ,and experienced with, Vista.
I would not doubt it.

Home user machines whether Dell, HP or just about any other vender are
usually poorer quality than their business lines and offer less OS choices.
Google for problems with Latitudes vs Inspiron or HP Pavilion vs Compaq
(they still use the Company brand on many of their business portables) and
you will find notable quality different a low end machine from anyone is a
problem.

I don't think you know what you're talking about. I have been selling Dell
to my customers for years. When Windows 2000 was released, I was able to
sell OptiPlexes to my customers for nearly a year with Windows 98
pre-installed (many apps were not ready for Win2K in the business
environment). When XP came out, it was the same.

Dell will sell computers with either operating system pre-installed until
February 2008.

Dell is not desperate to sell computers. The huge number of PCs sold by HP
and Dell makes the numbers difference between them insignificant. Sure, it
would be nice to be the "leader", but being second means you're still
selling huge numbers of computers around the world.

So, buy an HP. Then when a part dies under warranty, see if they have the
part delivered and installed by an HP technician the next day before noon.
