| | Question on sound devices with Vista Ultimate I'm run running Vista Ultimate on a Dell XPS 600 totally packed for programming and game playing. It includes a Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS, a 6 way Cambridge sound system, and a Plantronics DSP 500 headset. When I was running the XP Pro sp/2 OS, Plantronics provided a toolbutton next to the Windows sound system button on the tray which not only allowed for total configuration of both playback devices, but a switch allowing you to turn each one on or off independantly as wanted. Thus you could play just the speakers, just the headphones, or both depending upon you current needs. Now finally after a lot of trial and error with all the many Vista sound settings, I have both playback units and the recording mike in the headset working perfectly except for one thing I haven't been able to figure out! There seems to be no way of quickly and easily switching from one device or the other! The ONLY way I've been able to discover is to open the playback menu item provided by the sound system button on the tray, and changing the default setting from one to the other! So if I want to play a loud game like BattleField 2142 without disturbing my daughter who is watching a movie in the same room, I have to change the default sound playback from my speakers to the headset. Then because I always forget, the next morning I'm wondering why my system isn't saying hello to me as usual...it IS, but I can't hear it from the headset earphones hung up on the wall! If anyone has a simple solution to this problem please let me know. If there really isn't any built-in and/or ready-made answer, let me know as well because then perhaps I'll take the time to write a small controller exe of my own. Thanx in advance! |
