| | Configure Firewall Outgoing I have seen several reports about how Vista allows the built-in Firewall to be configured to control outgoing connections. Is that something limited to Ultimate, because I can't find any access to it or reference about it in my Home Premium???. |

| | Re: Configure Firewall Outgoing Hi, If you go to the Administrative Tools folder (which you can access from Control Panel, or from the Start Menu if you have configued it to be shown on the Start Menu) there is a link to the "Windows Firewall with Advanced Security" MMC Snapin. That can be used to configure (via a GUI) outbound and inbound rules. Alternatively, if you wan to do this programmatically, you can use netsh.exe Cheers Ken -- My IIS Blog: www.adOpenStatic.com/cs/blogs/ken <Chuck> wrote in message news:lsfa33pqj9ahop03rhm0js4733f41bflm5@4ax.com... >I have seen several reports about how Vista allows the built-in > Firewall to be configured to control outgoing connections. > > Is that something limited to Ultimate, because I can't find any access > to it or reference about it in my Home Premium???. |

| | Re: Configure Firewall Outgoing Thanks Ken. I knew it was supposed to be in Admin Tools, but I missed it in the main menu and was looking for it in Computer Management. Incidentally, this seems to be far less user friendly than a proprietary firewall like say Zone Alarm. I wanted to ensure that only approved programs could send outgoing transmissions, but I think I'll leave well alone. | | Re: Configure Firewall Outgoing You can use Vista Firewall Control (free) from here: http://www.sphinx-soft.com/Vista/order.html Any time an application tries to send out to the internet you will get a pop up window asking you what you want to do. You can allow once, allow always, deny once or deny always. You have to make the choice. -- Regards, Richard Urban Microsoft MVP Windows Shell/User (For email, remove the obvious from my address) Quote from George Ankner: If you knew as much as you think you know, You would realize that you don't know what you thought you knew! <Chuck> wrote in message news:lsfa33pqj9ahop03rhm0js4733f41bflm5@4ax.com... >I have seen several reports about how Vista allows the built-in > Firewall to be configured to control outgoing connections. > > Is that something limited to Ultimate, because I can't find any access > to it or reference about it in my Home Premium???. |
