Vista - background (wallpaper)

I am trying to change my background to a picture. I can change the color of
the background, but when I choose a picture it does not appear. I have
tried the help screens, but no success. Any suggestions?

Is your photo in JPG format? If so, it should work. All you need to do is
right click on the photo and select "Set as desktop background".

if your background picture's resolution is higher or is the same as your
screen resolution, of course your background color will be behind your
background picture

try Right-Click > Personalize > Desktop Background

Had the same problem. Vista is evil. This worked for me:

In control panel go to ease of access center
At the bottom, choose "Make it easier to focus on tasks"
Under "Reading" see if "Remove background images" box is checked.
If it is, uncheck it and that should get your desktop wallpaper back.
