Re: DVD Maker in Home Premium Edition crashes with AVI files

Looks like a bug in xvidcore.dll

Maybe you can turn off DEP for that application termporarily and see if that
solves the problem.

Cheers

Data Execution Prevention (DEP)is another halfass and next to useless
Microsoft "feature" that is suppose to prevent damage from viruses and
from other security threats.

This may help, haven't tried it myself, set a restore point first.

http://www.realtime-vista.com/admini...tion_preve.htm

A better solution is get a better video editior application. I work
with video files all day and don't get any DEP errors with Vegas.

Re: DVD Maker in Home Premium Edition crashes with AVI files

That's a really super specific error message saying that your XVID codec is
walking over memory it shouldn't.

So: your best bets are to either update your XVID codec, or uninstall that
and use FFDShow for that instead.

You should not turn off DEP here. It's meant to protect you from badly
behaving software causing security issues. This software is evidently badly
behaving. If you really love XVID, it'd probably be potentially helpful for
you take your crash to the XVID development/support sites and see if they're
already aware of this, since I'm sure they'd like to fix this. They're
generally good people. =)

Re: DVD Maker in Home Premium Edition crashes with AVI files

Hello again and thanks for the help, guys. I really appreciate it.

Bear with the noob here: I went about unchecking some things on the
compatibility tab of Windows Movie Maker, uninstalled XVid codecs and
installed latest stable builds from xvid.org. I tried unchecking the
AVI Comopressor on WMMaker to see what happened and now I could add
some Avi files on DVD Maker but not all kinds: some AVI files still
give out an error and are not added to the project, but at least the
DVD Maker doesn't stop working anymore. Strange...

However...! I went back to check the problem reports and noticed I was
looking at it in chronological order from oldest to newest and the
first report I posted up here, was the first DVD Maker error reported.
(The xvid thing)

It seems that the latest errors have all featured a StackHash module
fault.
The latest report indicated a StackHash_1703.

Any ideas on what this means? Looking around the web, I read that
particular module name, StackHash is usually indicative of memory
corruption?

Can you include the full set of information? StackHash_xxxx is only
valuable given the full set of information that you get shown. =)

Re: DVD Maker in Home Premium Edition crashes with AVI files

I'm having a similar issue. Here's what I've done.

Installed Matroski Splitter
Installed ffdshow
Installed divx
Installed Nero7 trail edition (which created dvds perfectly fine)
Uninstalled Nero7 when trail period expired
Tried installing Nero6 full and uninstalled it when it didn't work.
Decided to try DVDMaker.

DVDMaker crashes after avi files have been added and 'burn' button
pressed.

I don't know if DVDMaker worked before I installed anything.

I've tried uninstalling all the codec packages I had installed and
renamed the video.ax file in Programs/CommonFiles/Ahead/Nero (or
something like that its where the ax files are kept) so it doesn't get
picked up as these don't get removed in an uninstall.

In addition to this in movie maker I've unchecked all the codecs in the
options menu but this means that the avi files won't load into DVDMaker,
which is understandable as I can longer watch them in WMP either. I have
to have at least 1 video and 1 audio codec (which means installing
ffdshow or divx) and I've tried varying my selection alas to no avail.
I also have some pinnacle codecs which I've unchecked but I can't
uninstall these as I think they are used by the tv card I have. I have
also tried installing the windows codec package.

I've had a variety of errors in the crash bucket but unchecking suspect
codecs seem to eventually get rid of the module name so I have something
like below (this is not the actual bucket (as I'm on my work machine at
the mo) I've just copied the one from above and altered the Fault
Module Name. It seems to work on other vidoe clips (not avi) that I
have although I've not tried to do a full burn with these clips as I
don't want to waste a perfectly good disc on a 10 second clip. I'm
going to try a Nero removal tool to see if that helps but any other
tips or advice would be great. I can post the real crash bucket later.
