| | Re: Windows Vista VS Windows XP Hi, I don't know if it can work ok with your server, but my 2 cents is that you'd be better understand what users are talking about if you're using the same system as they are. Now this is my rant: Despite I don't have major problems on my testing system, the user interface is the most counterproductive that I have ever seen and they should declare insanity. There is no clear benefits for re-training user for the new work styles (except changes for the purpose of changes), and despite I haven't reached the final conclusion, it seems Vista will always cost me a few more clicks for accomplishing the same things under XP. A few more clicks - that's productivity! If he has time to test Vista Business on the company network and gets things stable in his mind then he'll let you know. Until that time use XP. -- Leythos Igitur qui desiderat pacem, praeparet bellum. spam999free@rrohio.com (remove 999 for proper email address) |

All the changes, including widespread renaming of "default" folders and apps, rearranging of menus with no rhyme or reason, and apparently for no real purpose, confusing new graphic interface, are all necessary to make Vista look sufficiently different from previous versions of Windows. This only serves one purpose; to create the illusion that Vista is a new OS. Dig deep enough and you can find dialogs and graphics leftover from Windows 3.11. Consider, no one will ever offer an explanation as to WHY all these system-wide changes were implemented, much less needed. This is just another example of the Marketing Dept. at work. -- ======================================= "What we've gone through in the last several years has caused some people to question 'Can we trust Microsoft?'" - Steve Ballmer ======================================= |

Hi, But I have a different opinion about that - this is an example, from what I know although may not apply to MS, when engineers thought they know "everything" and when they jump in marketing. | | Re: Windows Vista VS Windows XP Thank you for your reply. Other users are my colleagues in the company. Some of them are connected directly to my subserverserver (same local server), and others are connected to other subservers and the rest of them (most) are connected to the main server at company head office. We communicate with each other using MS Outlook, we share information using common area network, we communicate sometimes using Skype. Sorry I'm not specialized in computers & IT. I wish the above is enough for you to give me precise enswer. Thanks, Yousef "xfile" wrote: > Hi, > > I don't know if it can work ok with your server, but my 2 cents is that > you'd be better understand what users are talking about if you're using the > same system as they are. > > Now this is my rant: > > Despite I don't have major problems on my testing system, the user interface > is the most counterproductive that I have ever seen and they should declare > insanity. > > There is no clear benefits for re-training user for the new work styles > (except changes for the purpose of changes), and despite I haven't reached > the final conclusion, it seems Vista will always cost me a few more clicks > for accomplishing the same things under XP. | | Re: Windows Vista VS Windows XP Hi Richard, I'm not specialized in IT & computers. I was obliged to buy a notebook (Intel Core 2 Duo, 15.4" display, built-in cam, 1GB RAM, 160 GB HDD, OS Windows VISTA). You never find in the market notebook with the above spec. with OS Windows XP. You can find if it but without camera, or you ca find with camera & XP but with Intel Core Duo (not double). Since I am mostly connected to company subserver (main server is in another country) and I communicate with my colleagues in different sites & countries via MS Outlook, I want to know if the new laptop (OS VISTA) will work properly while it is connected to the server (Outlook, Internet, Download from server, etc....). Please help. Yousef "Richard G. Harper" wrote: > With only this to go on, the answer is "Who knows?" You have not given us > enough information to make a real answer. > > -- > Richard G.
