Task Manager System Critical Processes

After upgrading to Vista, I now have to remove and and reinstall some
of my software programs.

Instructions for the reinstallation emphasize that ALL Tasks and most
processes in Task Manager should be ended before starting the
installation.

However, the instructions point out that several processes are "System
Critical" and should not be ended else the computer will shut down and
restart.

Where can I find a list of these "System Critical" processes for Vista
Home Premimum?

Jerry

Hi SeniorNovice,

It sound like it would be easier to do that in SAFE MODE instead, and just close all your running programs. Would not mess with system processes. Did you do a clean install? To find out what the processes are in Task manager, right click the process & click "GO TO SERVICE". This will highlight the service running that process in the SERVICES tab in Task manager. Here's a link that explains all the services in Vista:

Hope this helps you,
Shawn

I agree with Ronnie. I must of been asleep to have missed that.

Re: Task Manager System Critical Processes

I think you are misunderstanding those instructions. The standard
instructions are exit all running programs and tasks. This means any
programs that you have started, not all of the tasks you see running in the
Task Manager.
