| | Newsgroup posts are not the same in Windows Mail and OE6 Just an interesting observation, On my desk, I have two systems running at the same time, an XP Pro notebook using OE6 and a LCD screen connected to a Vista desktop using Windows Mail, but when I read posts in the same newsgroup (e.g. this one), they are not exactly the same. A few are showing up in Windows Mail but not in OE, but if I search that particular post in OE, it is there just not showing up. I did refresh a few times to see if there are any difference but it's the same, and both are using the same sorting method - by date. Anyway, just an observation and don't know if anyone else also noticed. |

Apologies for not being particularly specific - I don't actually use Windows Mail or OE6 myself. Some newsreaders have an option to download a maximum number of headers at once (eg. mine will prompt me to download more than 500). It could be that if there are more than that number of new messages, OE only downloads the newest however many, and doesn't prompt to download the rest. Maybe look for such an option in the newsgroup account settings in OE? Something like "download at most (n) new messages"? If all new messages come up in both, but it's just some old ones that don't show in OE, it could be that those are messages from before you first set up the newsgroup on OE. |

I think Mark is on to the answer. Read this article I wrote at http://www.mindspring.com/~anorton1/Post_Mystery.html and see if it explains what you are seeing. There are instructions there as well for a workaround to the problem. | | Re: Newsgroup posts are not the same in Windows Mail and OE6 Hi, Examples at this moment: I see "RE: "Run as Administrator"...make default??" (sarahl, 05/02/2007 5:54PM) in Windows Mail but not in OE6. By the way, it seems to me that those posts showing only in Windows Mail are replies to the original post. I have another one titled: Re: Cannot email photos, also is a reply and it shows in Windows Mail on the top of the list but not in OE6. Strange but well... | | Re: Newsgroup posts are not the same in Windows Mail and OE6 Hi, Thanks and it's very informative article. But I don't want to download all headers, and I can live with missing some posts. I don't read every one, after all. But thanks for the information and I could use it if I wan to in the future.
