Word Docs

I have Word documents saved on my other PC (WinXP) and when I try to open
them on this PC (Vista) it shows it all weird, symbols, xnxzyyxyxyyxyyx kind
of thing. How is it that this wonderful new version of Window cannot open
earlier versions of a Word Doc from Microsoft Office.
Please Note: my Vista does not have Microsoft Word, only "Microsoft Works
and Word Pad"
Is there a patch?
Thanks

Re: Word Docs

Word in not a part of Vista. If you wish to view your Word docs without
installing MS Word, you can download and install Wordviewer. Google will
help you find.

Have a look at Open Office (http://www.openoffice.org/), it's free and
compatible with MS Word.

Either shell out the bucks for Word or go to openoffice.org and download a
free office suite that can open and edit Word documents (but probably NOT
Word 2007 documents -- the ones with the .docx extention).
Wordperfect, which is cheaper than Word, also may be able to open and edit
Word documents (but maybe not .docx files).

not too.
