| | Is it possible to reinstall Media player on Vista Hi Windows media player won't start, I keep getting this problem. If I do a system restore it works again, but don't want to keep doing this. Is it possible to reinstall Window Media Player on Vista, if so how and where? Thanx |

| | Re: Is it possible to reinstall Media player on Vista Hi Uncle Nobby-- Vista won't let you reinstall WMP. Often WMP has very specific errors with very specific fixes. Type "eventvwr.msc" in your run box without quotes and click on "Applications" under Windows errors and see if you get any WMP error at the time you open it up. If so, Post it. You can also run SFC. Type cmd in Search box>rt. click>run as admin.>at prompt type "sfc /scannow" no quotes. | | Re: Is it possible to reinstall Media player on Vista Have you tried Control Panel>Problem Reports and Solutions for an indication of what might be causing your problem? First click Check for new solutions, then View problem history, right click on the problem and select View problem details and in the bottom right click Copy to clipboard. Paste into a new e-mail and post here. NOTE: The Bucket ID is the most important part of the problem report. Right-click on the Command Prompt shortcut, BEFORE Command Prompt is running, and choose Run as Administrator. It will then show "Administrator: Command Prompt" in the title bar of the Command Prompt window. Then type: sfc /scannow Press enter on your keyboard. | | Re: Is it possible to reinstall Media player on Vista Also-- what's the value for: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, CLSID\{6BF52A52-394A-11d3-B153-00C04F79FAA6} \InprocServer32 on this system? If it's working after a System Restore and then breaks again, that's very strange in that it implies that something is consistently re-causing problems/corruption here. Since I can't imagine that some action keeps happening after every System Restore that is then breaking WMP -- does rebooting without a Restore get WMP working again... ? -- Speaking for myself only. I have found out what the is causing the problem. If I play Fifa 07 it seems to do something to WMP to stop it from loading. So unless there is a solution it is either stop playing that game or use a different media player. |

Some more info, when it is doing the above I have found that if I right click Media Player and tell it to run as Administrator, it loads up. This is even when I am logged in as the Administrator. Further, if I turn off UAC it then works by just clicking on it. So whatever is happening it is affecting the UAC of Windows Media Player. |

| | Re: Is it possible to reinstall Media player on Vista So wait - if you just run FIFA 07 it breaks WMP? Does rebooting set it back to normal? Since FIFA should be running as non-privileged, it shouldn't be able to completely break WMP to the point of needing a Restore or that sort of thing. It might be able to cause some sort of issue whereby WMP is hung up somehow, but that's the only logical problem possibility I'd think of given that data so far. -- Speaking for myself only. No, restarting Windows doesn't fix it, I have to do a Restore. I have found taht if I right click the Windows Media Player and tell it to Run As Administrator, it works, this is even when I am the Admistrator anyway. Also if I switch UAC off everything works ok, switch it back on and the problem starts again. The game seems to mess up with the Admistrator rights. > -- > Speaking for myself only. > See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info. > This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no > rights. > -- > > "Uncle Nobby" <unc@invalid.com> wrote in message > news:%2305dDk2jHHA.4904@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... >> >> "zachd [MSFT]" <zachd@nomailplz.online.microsoft.com> wrote in message >> news:OJ%23qEd2jHHA.3760@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... >>> >>> Also-- what's the value for: >>> HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, CLSID\{6BF52A52-394A-11d3-B153-00C04F79FAA6} >>> \InprocServer32 >>> on this system? >>> >>> If it's working after a System Restore and then breaks again, that's >>> very strange in that it implies that something is consistently >>> re-causing problems/corruption here.
