DVD drive causes blue screen in Vista

Inserting any type of disk causes a blue screen shut down after the drive
starts to spin. Drive is visible in Explorer, the driver and all properties
check normal. The drive works in Safe Mode and you can boot from the Vista
upgrade disk. The system was upgraded from XP. Drive is a 16x Memorex DVD
+/-.

Re: DVD drive causes blue screen in Vista

What software have you installed that installs drivers for the drive (Nero,
Roxio etc.).
What drivers are installed beyond the basic signed Microsoft drivers for the
device? If any, you can isolate them 1 x 1 into a new folder in your driver
folder until you find the one causing the problem and then work backwards
