| Windows XP, Windows Vista (Coming In A Few Days) | I wouldn't know much about Sony VAIOs but regarding Vista, as long as your VAIO was built for Vista, as far as I know (and I'm not saying that I'm an expert at this), your drivers would work as they are also built for Vista. It's much like HP laptops. In the HP support page, they first ask you if you're going to download drivers for a Vista laptop. There is another section dedicated for drivers for XP. |

Since VISTA itself does not contain all the specialized files a laptop needs you may find that the text relating to those files -- Help etc will appear in Japanese; I think I've come across a reference to this in a user message somewhere, not necessarily for a Sony. You could either live with this, if you can use the Japanese language where it appears, or you could check the US Sony support pages to see if US files exist for your model. You are likely to find that the exact model number does not appear on the US website since manufacturers tend to localize models and in that case all you could do is try to match the hardware specifications on a similar US model and try the files for that US model. The LAPTOP Computing Forum on Compuserve is a good place for support not specific to VISTA but users there have plenty of experience of the problems of upgrading with VISTA although not too many Sony users appear there. Do Sony supply recovery disks for your model, or a utility on board to make them. Make sure you can reinstall the original version if you have to and of course back up off the machine any personal files you may have made. Good luck! |
