    Cannot update

    Hi,

I installed vista home ultimate today and when I try and update it I get the
    following error:

    WindowsUpdate_80080005 WindowsUpdate_dt000

It has not worked since I installed it, most other operations seem ok so I
cannot understand why this one is giving me problems.

I have the same problem. Unfortunately microsoft wants to charge a minimum
of 59.00 to resolve the issue. Error 0x80080005 seems to be a microsoft cash
cow. It isn't even listed in the error codes. How is this problem
corrected. Does Vista have to be reinstalled. Vista is so buggy.

The error you speak of is windows unable to verify the downloads, try autopatcher they have a program to update vista with microsoft approved patchs.

    RE: Cannot update

I started getting the same message out of nowhere. I was able to update before.
I'm also having problems accessing the web. Although I can surf with IE, all
other programs report an error before even trying to connect (''The procedure
    call table is invalid'').

Is this bug ever going to be fixed or should I look into XP?
    Or Linux..

    Hmm...
I have some solutions for most of you...

    1. Goto AutoPatcher.com and try there updater program for vista, it has every microsoft approved patch available for download and each month they release a new version with the latest patchs, they should fix a bunch of bugs with vista.

    2. Boot vista DVD and select Repair instead of Install.

    3. or Use recovery options to recover to a previous date.

One of the solutions should solve this for you.

This error code (80080005) is from programs trying to access a COM service incorrectly, there is not much you can do except remove that program to restore functionality.

hardKNOCKS From What I see thats related to Windows trying to download a updated bunch of security certificates and it usually does, im not sure if you need any extra help?

I hope its helps with your situation. (imho stay with XP untll Vista-SP1 comes out near december)
